2016 Season – Training Camp
BUMS Player Selection Meeting XXII
And so we begin the 22nd year of the BUMS. I hope you are all back for another season. If not please can you let me know asap. The 2016 BUMS NFL Fantasy Draft will take place at BUMS Headquarters from 7.30pm on Sunday September 4th preceded by a burger & hot dog banquet provided by Cheryl (thank you, lady). The first game of the season is a repeat of the Superbowl matchup as the Denver Broncos entertain the Carolina Panthers and is played overnight on Thursday September 8th. We’ll be getting together on the evening of Friday 9th September to watch it. Trading Day 1 will be at HQ from 3pm on October 16th before week 6’s games and Trading Day 2 will be before week 10 on November 13th. I do hope as many of you as possible can make them, please put these in your diaries now.
Welcome to Alexander
As the league starts its 22nd year we welcome Alexander Abberstein who begins his first year. Alex is a Spurs and Patriots fan (but we won’t hold that against him) and replaces John Botten who retired from the league after 20 years. As league rules dictate Alex will start in the Conference where his father will battle against him along with AP, George and Stampy. Again as the rules state Alex will select 16th and will have supplemental picks at the end of round 3 and after Andy H, Marcus, Johnnie and Ron have all had their extra picks at the end of round 5. The aforementioned all have supplemental picks as they have released their 2015-2016 franchise players (whom they will still be paying this year).
Franchise Players
Talking of which, the time for the selection of our 2016-17 franchise players has arrived. You must supply the name of your new franchise man by July 1st. To help out a few bits of research are here. Firstly attached is the final table with each players teams (so you can remember who you had on your squad in the first place) and how much they will cost you for the next two years if you franchise them. You can also sign players you put on Injured Reserve. Last year 8 players went on BUMS IR to end their seasons. Those who are available to re-sign are identified in column AF of the Final2015Teams spreadsheet and their price in column AH, but note the team they are listed against is last year’s team. They may have moved clubs or be out of the league for all I know. As mentioned above remember if you cut your franchise player you still pay him his signed salary for the rest of the season/two seasons. Defending Champion Ron impressively won the Papas Fritas while paying his injured and cut 2015-2016 franchise man (Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell) $2m and as he continues to pay him this year so Ron has a budget of $8m to spend on his eight players. Andy H, Marcus & Johnnie will all work with a budget of $9.5m.
